The Facts Inside Our Reporter’s Notebook A new law is set to go into effect Saturday in Arizona will enhance protections fo victims of abuse.
Maricopa County attorney Rachel Mitchell held a press conference Wednesday talking about "Kayleigh's Law" (SB 1412) and how it could help victims of certain crimes.
Currently, if a convicted abuser's probation ends, the victim lacks legal protection against them, Mitchell noted. If the victim wanted a protection order, they would have to provide evidence that there was a recent encounter with their abuser. However, that requirement will be scrapped under the new law.
