Luggage labor for QANTAS upper management staff 🇦🇺

Australian airline Qantas has asked its management staff to help dealing with luggage at airports. As in actual intensive labor instead of sitting at a desk in an office somewhere far away from where most money is earned; namely at airports flying passengers. What could go wrong?

Asking this from management staff sounds at least silly, but if you think about it, it’s a sign of the airline’s inability to find enough staff that is able to handle expected luggage volumes in the months to come. Additional problem is, that these volunteers probably have no background in this kind of work, so adding them to the work pool without training isn’t that helpful.

More staff for ground handling activities is needed than the airline can attract for work at Sydney and Melbourne airports. Volunteers from management positions will do this job instead of their office job, not besides. They are expected to able to handle luggage with weights of up to 32 kilograms.

Earlier in June 2022, Qantas had to cancel some eight percent of all its flights due to shortage of staff.
