This is an excellent little rechargeable speaker to put into your rucksack when out and about, in your briefcase when at work or at your bedside at night.

It is compact sized but robust and well made, IPX7 waterproof and clearly built to last. It functions as a Bluetooth speaker but has an FM radio built-in and also serves as a bedside clock and nightlight. It has an attractive RGB lighting system that gives spot colours as well as fast and slow pulsing.

Inside the rather posh box was the speaker itself, a short USB charging cable, and a well-written and easy to read single sheet large format User Guide. I enclose a copy of the User Guide in my unboxing video.

The speaker is 92 mm in diameter and 50mm high and made from robust ABS plastic with silica get button pads around the outside of the metal central speaker grill. Around the circumference are large buttons for Power/light status, Bluetooth/FM/Clock Mode, Next Track/Volume Up, Last Track/Volume Down, Play/Pause/Call. The speaker gives spoken prompts for each selection. On the side is the grommet protected USB-C charging port. Sadly, there are no ports for audio in or an SD card.

The speaker is fully waterproof and IPX-7 rated, which means it is proof against splashes and water immersion for up to half an hour at one-metre depth.

Pairing the Bluetooth 5.1 speaker to my phone was easy enough with a one button operation and voice status alerts. There is no NFC option either nor can the device connect to two Bluetooth devices at once. However, if you have a second K8 speaker it can be used with the first as a stereo pair. After rebooting both the phone and speaker I was pleased to see they connected automatically when powered up.

The sound quality is first-rate for the size with plenty of volume and good powerful bass. For the size, the sound is loud, clear and resonant enough to be heard when on the beach or outside in noisy situations.

The device is charged via a USB-C port in the access panel. It sports a rather small sized 900mAh battery but a 90-minute charge can give up to ten hours of music time. The small battery size is perhaps the reason there is no power out port to allow the device to charge or power external devices, However, the claims for music time usage per charge from my experience seem pretty realistic.

Had I been awarding stars I would have been tempted to knock one off due to the lack of external ports and a Powerbank mode, which can be found in many rival devices but in the end, I decided the sound quality and fine build quality more than compensated for these failings and made the device well worth a high rating. At the end of the day, this is a speaker designed for both indoor and outdoor use in wet conditions and they have decided to focus on that rather than unneeded features.

This is an excellent quality Bluetooth speaker which passes over whistles and bells in favour of elegant looks, great sound and robust build quality. For the price of a shade under £20, it is an excellent buy.
