Batman: Arkham Knight (PC) Gameplay (Dell Optiplex 9020, i7 4790, RTX 2060 KO)
he entire Arkham series was recently on sale of $8 on Steam, and since I have yet to play any of them, I pounced on the deal. I am uploading this video for two reasons. One, just to show the gameplay, and the other is for those who are still interested in doing a Dell Optiplex gaming PC build.
Arkham Knight has a 90 FPS cap, so I turned it up to 90 fps max, and turned off V-Sync just to show the benchmarks for those interested. Some of the frame dips might be because of loading, as I am using the 500gb HDD that came with it as my game drive, as opposed to the Sata SSD I use as my boot drive. I also turned it up to 1080p, everything on High, and I turned the interactive Fog on.
My normal settings, I use V-sync (I know, PC gamers, but I am just using an old 1080p, 60hz TV for my moniter), cap it at 60 FPS, and knock the resolution down to either 900p, or 1632X918, and the game still looks great, and runs a better. You can even turn off the interactive smoke and fog to help with the performance. I kept it on for this footage.
Also, I couldn't use Shadowplay to record this footage, so I used my Elgato HD60s with my laptop to record it. I'm not sure why trying to record with Shadowplay kept crashing the game. Maybe it was just something with today, because I don't remember it being an issue before.
The fourth-gen I7 may be showing it's age a little, however, anyone looking to do an optiplex build, I can say it's still a viable budget option in 2022. I don't plan on upgrading anytime soon, and will still be able to play most modern titles for the time being. If you're just looking for an e-sports machine, then this is also a great budget option. I don't play E-sports, I built this with video editing in mind, however, I have been gaming on it quite a bit lately.
As far as the rest of the specs, I added a 500 watt PSU thanks to the 24-pin-to-8-pin adapter, 32 gigs of DDR3 at 1600 MHz, and the RTX 2060 (6 gig).
I was looking at a GTX 1660 ti at the time when GPU's came down in price, and found that EVGA was selling the 2060 off their website for cheaper to around the same price the 1660 ti was going for used on Ebay, so I chose the 2060. I have seen videos of someone using a 3060 with this Processor, but I would say anything higher would be extreme overkill.
As for ventilation, since my system came in looking like someone powebombed it, the back fan has a fin missing, and the case is bent, I just take the side panel off and open air it. Sometimes I'll put my room fan on it if it's a warm day.
NOTE: I had to mute the music in this footage, because the first Gameplay sample I uploaded got a content ID claim because of the music. Let's just say I have been trying to get good footage of this game for days now, and something always went wrong when trying.
