Come spring and autumn each year, birds of prey fly across Chongqing in great numbers on their seasonal migratory journeys, as the unique topography of parallel mountain ridges hundreds of miles long sustain their flight with strong upward thermals whilst providing a clear landmark to follow.

Ecological protection has become a priority task since the 18th National Congress, and the subsequent achievements have now created the ideal conditions for observing birds of prey from close distance upon the mountaintops. This has led to Chongqing earning the national status of ‘Eagle City.’

Citizens now enthusiastically participate in seasonal events with the Chongqing Birdwatching Society in ever growing numbers, while organisations such as the Luhai Foundation publicise the diverse birdlife, popular science and importance of environmental protection to wide audiences.

In this video, join the Chongqing Birdwatching Society and local enthusiasts as they closely observe birds of prey flying amid clear blue skies over China National Day.
