Felix Durand was taken as a prisoner of the English during the 7 Years' War (1756-1763). He managed to escape Liverpool Tower and went around pretending that he was deaf and dumb (unable to speak English) and people took pity on him and gave him work. Eventually, he was caught and returned to prison but was soon released by Sir Edward Canliff.
