“When we are emotionally healthy we are happier, they have more dynamic relationships, and tend to be physically healthier. Emotionally healthy people protect this happiness by doing certain things, but they also protect their health and happiness by NOT doing other things. Here are 12 things emotionally healthy people DON’T do.
1. They don’t compare themselves to other people. They recognize this is one of the main sources of unhappiness and they avoid it.
2. They don’t judge themselves (or their lives) by how they feel. You are not your feelings. Your feelings are not your life. Feelings play an important role in our lives but they are not the whole picture.
3. Emotionally healthy people don’t expect other people to read their minds.
4. They don’t react, they respond. Victor Frankl wrote, “Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response.”
5. They don’t ruminate on negatives. Negativity is toxic to our hearts, minds, bodies, and souls. Emotionally healthy people find ways to get their minds of the hamster wheel of negativity.
6. They don’t suppress their feelings. They allow themselves to feel their feelings, and they learn to process and respond to them appropriately.”
