Before M2K Had the WR, He Got the JV5 with Roy!

Mew2King, Leffen, Plup and other smashers have been competing for the fastest iron man on Slippi melee online. Mew2King is notorious for finding the most clever ways to win. He developed his own strategy that requires both LUCK and SKILL.

Unfortunately for him, Twitch chat trolling him will also kill the run. Legend has it that Groovydot is still running away to this day.

This attempt, along with the highlights before it, go to show some of the impediments to a solid attempt: defensive play, bottom-tiers, and going against nigh ungimpable characters. Camping is obviously a time-loss in a speedrun, but characters that have a difficult time closing out stocks, like Kirby and Bowser, can serve as major run killers, especially against the likes of Puff, Peach, and Yoshi, which each have their own resilience to closing stocks early.

One strategy that you'll notice is that Mew2King can take advantage of his patented ledge expertise to quickly close out stocks, but this only works if the opponent is hellbent on challenging him there. Otherwise, staying on the ledge means not approaching, which loses time. This is why characters that have efficient kills at the ledge need aggressive opponents in order to capitalize on that time-saving potential.
