FFW 13-1: New Updates for Steam Deck Make it Even Better

What are they? A client update and an OS update.

What do they do?
Make external display usage better by:
Allowing for independent refresh rates between internal and external displays
Moving refresh rate controls to the Settings menu from the quick access menu
Made it so that you can move that refresh rate back to the quick access menu if you are a developer
Home screen performance improved
SteamInput configs fixed to alleviate crashes
Reduced doulbe-activations on touchpads and sticks

Fixed crash in RDR 2
Improved hot-plug detection for external displays

These are Beta Updates, so be careful unless you are a power user.

FFW 13-2: NVK is Here, Sort Of! New Open Source Vulkan Driver for Nvidia on Linux

It is a work in progress, but work is happening quickly, and hopefully this will lead to far more sooner, rather than later. Right now, it only works for the 20 and 30-series cards, and is not 100% ready for those, but I am excited for the prospect of better Nvidia drivers being actively developed by the team at MESA, but also others who will hopefully put some time into the project soon.

FFW 13-3: New Linux-Native Games for Steam

There were a total of 33 games released with native Linux clients between 9/28 and 10/5. This is out of a total of 313 titles. More than 10% of all new Steam games were released for Linux. We’ll chat about a few of them below:

Some are 2D platformers, some are 3D and Rogue-like in nature. None of which really appeal to me at this point, but mayby they will tickle your fancy.

Midnight Manor
A spooky platformer, by an indie solo developer.

Astrogon
A precision platformer with multiplayer, where you dash, jump, and aim your way to the teleport portal at the end of each level.

MYCORRHIZA
A horror based visual novel, so if you are into horror manga, this may scratch an itch for you.

Words Can Kill

A roguelike deck building game, where you collect letters and put together words to form the best possible gear. Tactics are more important than vocabulary, here.

Despot’s Game: Dystopian Battle Simulator

An RPG/ Strategy, roguelike dungeon crawler where you equip your team and guide them through meatgrinder PVE and PVP levels.

Excavation of Hob’s Barrow
