How To Make Garden Fresh Tomato Sauce | Canning Food Preservation | Prepping | Heartway Farms

Come along with Julianne today, as she shares a relaxing morning of whipping up some top notch, garden-fresh, homemade tomato sauce. It's harvest season, and that means we have the privilege (and burden) of putting up tons of tomatoes for the winter! This is our favorite sauce recipe: simple, easy, and to the point:

Collect your fresh, garden tomatoes.
Wash them thoroughly.
To make the tomato easy to work with, slit one side of the tomato.
Squeeze out excess seeds and juice.
Add to a large, heavy bottomed pot.
Cook on the stove top for 10 minutes, covered.
Remove lid and simmer the tomatoes for approximately 1 hour. Stir occasionally so the tomatoes do not burn.

This is when we like to put all of the tomatoes and juice through the food mill.

***Running the tomatoes through the mill will give you the most beautiful, smooth tomato sauce***

Add your tomato sauce to sterilized jars. Lid and pressure can for 30 minutes.
