Non-Custodial parent vs Custodial Parent: Malicious Parent Syndrome

The first thing to know about Custodial Malicious Parent Syndrome is that it's a GENERAL, NON-SPECIFIC term. That means, it describes one kind of behavior or set of behaviors found in custodial parents who are hostile or indifferent toward non-custodial parents. It describes the actions of malicious and vindictive people who use family court judgements and laws as weapons against their former partners, and in order to psychologically bully them into complying with their very unreasonable demands and conditions. In other words, Custodial Malicious Parent Syndrome (CMPS) is characterized by a parent who uses the legal system for bad faith purposes, to gain an advantage over the other parent by preventing them from having appropriate access. It's unlike medical conditions like narcissistic personality disorder where a person has a mental condition that affects their thinking and social functioning. CMPS does not involve a diagnosable mental illness. CMPS is characterized by the following behaviors:

-Using custody battles as a form of revenge against their former partners (and sometimes their kids too!)

-Using legal tactics to harass, intimidate and bully other parents into giving up what they want.
