Are Barclays Bank certificates of deposit a good way to generate passive income?

Good question.

Barclays offers low interest rates on certificates of deposit (CDs). Rates vary from 3.25% APY for a 12 month CD up to 3.65% APY on a 60-month CD.
If you deposit 100,000 in a Barclays certificate of deposit for 60 months you might earn 3.65% interest. That is a very low return you are accepting. I don’t use certificates of deposit to generate passive income. I use them as collateral for loans. The only really useful thing a CD can be used for is as collateral to help you obtain a loan partially secured by the CD.

But as far as passive income they are not something that can generate you a good return for passive income investing. You will do better if you look at corporate income bonds of privately held companies to generate passive income.
