Nourish the Earth Element; a Qigong Flow for Late Summer

This is a 20 min Qigong flow perfect for the late Summer. In the Chinese Five Element system, the last few weeks of Summer highlight the Earth element and its corresponding organs; stomach and spleen.

In this sequence we aim to nourish our Earth element, starting with a little Animal Play first for the ‘grandparent’ element Wood, then working through some 'parent' Fire element energy with some Dragon play moves. We move into exercises from the 12 Rivers sequence which work the organs and their meridians, starting with 'One Arm Raising' for the stomach and ‘Crane Looks Behind’ for the spleen.

To close we do a grounding meditation, 'Standing Post' or 'Zhan Zhuang' a held posture that helps us draw energy from the earth and establish a strong and stable lower half.

Even though it’s just standing still, Zhan Zhuang can be a bit of a challenge, but it’s a great addition to your meditation repertoire and a fantastic way to build energy in the body within your Qi gong practice.

Let me know how you get on and thanks for practising with me! :)
