The Promised Land

Today I want to talk about the parallels between our lives and the Israelites escaping from Egypt, wandering through the Wilderness and entering the Promised Land.

The Israelites escaped the bondage of Egypt with Moses leading them out and we have escaped the bondage of sin with our Savior Jesus Christ leading us out of that bondage. Then the Israelites were wandering through the Wilderness living in temporary dwellings just as we are currently living in the “wilderness” of this life, living in the temporary dwellings of our bodies.

The Israelites were never alone and we are never alone. The Israelites had God with them. He led them all the way with a pillar of fire at night and a great cloud during the day. God tabernacled with them. Just as we are not alone in our life. We have Jesus Christ and God and they are leading us through the gift of the Holy Spirit who leads us each and every day and through our good times and rough times. We also have prayer, a direct access to God.

Then the Israelites had the hope of entering the promised land. They had a goal in mind just as we have our goal in mind of entering our Promised Land - entering the Kingdom of God and approaching the Heavenly Throne of God with Jesus Christ at His right hand. When the Israelites entered the Promised Land, it was flowing with milk and honey, it was flourishing, it provided all their needs and God took care of them and protected them as they followed His ways. We are going to enter our Promised Land of the Kingdom of God and Christ will establish His Kingdom here on Earth. He will be King over all the nations.

I want to take you to the book of Revelation to one of my favorite scriptures of that coming day. Revelation 21:1-7.

“Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.”

Let’s go to verses 22-27:

“I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.”

Continuing in Revelation 22:1-6:

“Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever. The angel said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. “

I wish you all a wonderful, beautiful day as we all look forward to that glorious, glorious day of our entering the Promised Land. God Bless you all.
