Moving Hay for Feeding the Flock for the Winter
1 year ago

We have a long winter here in southern MN so we feed hay. If we spread the hay strategically during the winter, it has the added benefit of improving the field through the seed and act of the animals trampling the fields.
On this beautiful October afternoon, we have some large bales to transport to the field where we plan to keep the flock. Peter uses the bale spear to pierce each bale and transport it across the farm. We want the bales in our far field as this field needs improvement. Two years ago when we moved in, it was a stripped-bare former soybean field. Although Peter immediately seeded it when we moved in, it has some bare patches and could benefit from spreading out the hay.
