White House Pardons Cannabis Offenders

US President Joe Biden announced on Thursday that he is set to pardon thousands of Americans found guilty of cannabis possession.
The move should help “right [the] wrongs” of past drug policy on both the federal and state level – a promise he repeatedly made as a candidate on the campaign trail.
Around 6,500 people were convicted of cannabis possession between 1992 and 2021 in the US.
Cannabis is currently a Schedule 1 substance, classified as the most dangerous drugs with no accepted medicinal use and remains illegal on the federal level, meaning offenders may still be arrested for possession, manufacture, transport or sale of the drug
