Bill Gates already owns 10% of Ecolab, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust already has a significant stake in the company, but he’s buying even more shares. The most recent reports say Gates has 25% shares in the company. This makes Ecolab the company where he has the second-largest stake, coming after Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, where Gates has a 70% stake.

Throughout August 2022, he bought Ecolab shares worth millions of dollars. But it might not be a profitable investment. Many of the company’s customers are in the hospitality industry, one of the industries most affected by the Covid pandemic. The company’s performance for 2022 so far shows that the company is also battling inflation.

According to Seeking Alpha, Ecolab’s operating income was down 14% in the first quarter of 2022 and 5% in the second quarter. Although it does seem like the company is making progress, the company has a debt of $8.7 billion. But this has not stopped Bill Gates from sinking $86 million in the company’s shares.
