One of the strongest typhoons in Japanese history hit the island of Kyushu.
Typhoon Nanmadol made landfall near the city of Kagoshima on Sunday morning.
The typhoon brought heavy rains, storm surges along the coast and strong winds.
The wind reached speeds of 190 km/h.
In some areas, more than 600 mm of rain fell in just one day.
Authorities have issued a special warning for Kyushu, the first issued outside Okinawa Prefecture.
