Rifle Foundations - Mounting the Rifle

Learning to mount the rifle consistently from various start positions is extremely valuable. In any engagement, drill or exercise if the start position is consistent you are setting yourself up for success.

I’ve seen people fall on their sword about start position. Here’s an idea, why don't you get good at all of them? I’m primarily a low ready shooter….until I’m coming up over a wall on a ladder, or holding a high window for extended periods of time. What about being completely surprised while you're in SSE? I think we can all agree it pays to be good at them all.

Finding the consistent position, in terms of connection to the rifle, where you are able to put down the most accurate performance based shots is a huge skill multiplier.

I think you need to work this dry a lot. Rifle dryfire is often overlooked but let’s not forget for a lot of guys a rifle is their primary or it’s what they get out in the worst situations.
