Using nuclear weapons, Putin will be a "legitimate target": Former White House adviser

Former White House national security adviser John Bolton said that Russian President Vladimir Putin would become a "legitimate target" if Russia uses nuclear weapons in the situation around Ukraine.

“He (Putin - ed.) is the center of decision-making and control of the Russian army. What we call a “legitimate military target.” I think that although there are many other things we can do as well, he should know that he is among our list of targets for such a case," Bolton said in an interview with CBS.

He made this statement in the context of a conversation about the prospects for the use of nuclear weapons in the situation around Ukraine and the US response if this happens.

"I think we should publicly make this clear not only to Putin, but also to the leadership of Russia, to the people of Russia: if Putin authorizes the use of nuclear weapons, he will sign his own suicide note," Bolton said.
