Why did God plant a tree of good and evil in Eden?

Have you ever wondered, like me, what the tree of knowledge of good and evil is? What purpose did it serve? Why would God create something that could potentially cause His children to sin?

I have decided to review this today; and hopefully, my explanation will afford a different view as to why a tree of good and evil was necessary in the Garden of Eden.
