Anthony Malone is a British paratrooper turned CIA operative who was active in Afghanistan throughout the US-led occupation. During his tenure, Malone became an intelligence agent and a vital asset on the ground for the coalition forces. When the country again fell to the Taliban, Malone who was retired was drafted in to help people to escape the country.

One day he and his partner were approached by the Taliban and although all of his papers were in order, the pair were still taken to a detention centre for questioning. While they believed they would be out in two hours. Malone with five other British and American Nationals remained in captivity for one hundred and ninety days.
