A staunch protector of human rights, including that of native Americans and black communities. Following the assassination of Reverend Martin Luther King. Brandao went on the Johnny Carson show to discuss his thoughts on events.

Brando talks about how he watched the announcement on television following the shooting of the civil rights leader. How his words from a speech the night before about him making it to the promised land. How he had seen it, but that he may not be there with his people to see his efforts bear fruit. Before the very next day being killed by a gunman.
