Teaching Your Puppy to Relax

Puppies have a lot of energy. They’re happy to explore the world and experience everything new. However, it is up to you to teach them when and where that exuberance is acceptable. One of the most important parts of training that is often overlooked in puppy training is how to relax and experience the world in a calmer way. Setting the pace while he is young helps to establish a well-adjusted adult dog who is fun to be around.
Teaching this is simple. In a calm way, simply reward the pup when he is relaxed. Here you can see that Bounder is chillin on the deck with me and I calmly drop a treat between his paws.
That’s it.
Now obviously you will want to spend a lot of time relaxing with your pup. The more time you put in, the better results you’ll have.
The next time your pup is running wild and getting into everything, ask yourself how much time you’ve spent teaching him to relax.
Train. Don’t complain.
