Cumberland City Council Councillor Steve Christou says he does not understand why the government is "rewarding such treachery" amid the repatriation of Islamic State families.
The National Security Committee has finalised plans to bring home 16 women and 42 children after risk assessment from ASIO agents cleared the families who have been detained since the fall of the Islamic State caliphate in 2019.
"The realities are these ISIS brides should not be coming back to Australia," Mr Christou told Rita Panahi.
"If they are, they're going to be dumped in Western Sydney.
"The individuals that are treacherous, un-Australian and problematic, and they're going come back to Australia … and have their handout for Centrelink payments and express housing, and take away precious resourcing.
"I don't understand why we're rewarding such treachery."
