There is a whale graveyard! And a photographer share
By - TIMESOFINDIA.COMCreated: Sep 29, 2022, 14:00 IST
Haunting pictures of an underwater whale graveyard are doing rounds on the internet. And more than the pictures it is an astounding fact that people are amazed about - we have a whale graveyard!
The photos were caught by a Swedish Photographic artist named Alex Dawson who won the first award in Scuba Jumping's 2022 Submerged Photograph Challenge Wide Point class, said a report from Newsweek.
Mr. Dawson took to Twitter to share a few photographs of the whale graveyard he captured. While sharing the photographs, he wrote, "I'm very honored that Scuba Diving Magazine choose my image as a winner of 2022 in the wide-angle category.
"Last but not least another image also got awarded with an honorable mention. And a big thank you for the first prize onboard the luxurious Red Sea Aggressor III in 2023," Mr. Dawson further composed.
Mr. Dawson told Newsweek, "When I catch pictures I need to make 'I want to be there' sentiments. That is my mantra."
Very rightly said Me. Dawson, these pictures are so stunning that one can wish to be there and witness this wonder themselves.
The images are from under three feet of packed ice in the bay of Tasiilaq, in Greenland.
The post has got more than 6,000 retweets since being shared. Various clients have applauded and praised the picture taker for such an astonishing shot in the post's remark region.
"Wow, these are astounding," composed a client.
One more remarked, "Grant and more than merited notice. Congrats!!"
As indicated by Newsweek, the straight of Tasiilaq is privately known as flenseplassen which for the most part signifies 'cleaning grounds'. The local Inuit hunters gather whale corpses and strip them down to the bare bones. They draw the remaining material back into the ocean during high tide.
"Ordinarily, to see whale bones like this you would require a submarine," Mr. Dawson further said. Be that as it may, in Greenland, they are scarcely contacted and are only 15 to 20 feet underneath the surface.
He went through almost an hour swimming underneath the ice to have the chance, changing breathing contraptions as his breath was dense in its valves. Subsequent to completing the plunge, he told, "Cold doesn't give me any apprehension."
