Virginia is a "Buyer Beware" state - one of the few in country. Which means, a seller is required by law to provide you with a disclosure stating that they are not making any representations or warranties as to the condition of the property, and you as the buyer are to use whatever due diligence you deem necessary to investigate the property. In this video, I cover some helpful tips on exercising your due diligence when investigating a property to purchase.
