The concert was a benefit to raise $23,000 for the Minnesota Dance Theatre; the whole amount needed was raised.

This show included the live debuts of Let’s Go Crazy, Computer Blue, Electric Intercourse, I Would Die 4 U, Baby I’m A Star, and Purple Rain. It also included Prince’s first performance of Joni Mitchell’s A Case Of You.

Three songs from this show: I Would Die 4 U, Baby I’m A Star and Purple Rain were overdubbed and edited in the studio, with the final versions released on Purple Rain (with the audio also appearing in the Purple Rain movie with new lip-synched footage.

The show was filmed, and in 2017 (a year after Prince’s death), rumors surfaced that video of the show would be included in the Purple Rain Deluxe Expanded Edition package. This did not come to pass, although a documentary about the show was said to be in production for release on a streaming platform at a later date.
