Row as Home Secretary probes giving legal anonymity to suspected criminals until they are charged despite fears plans could prevent more alleged victims coming forward

I have often thought that anonymity to suspected criminals even convicted criminals may be a good thing rather than bad.

By this, I am thinking of a lady who was abused sexually as a child by her dad.

She never reported it as doing so would mean her dads name being in the press, and as such people would know she had been abused. She did not want the family name in the news, and so never reported it.

Indeed one wonders if someone is assaulted by a partner if they do not report it, as they do not want people to work out who was assaulted.

In my view anonymity may result in more people reporting crimes, not less.
