The Fourth Amendment STILL Prohibits Unreasonable Searches and Seizures
You answer a knock at your door to find a government agent standing outside. Do you know what your rights are? When does the agent need a warrant? What makes a search reasonable? What should you do if the agent attempts to illegally enter your home? Whether or not you end up in jail may very well depend on how well you know your rights, and how prepared you are to defend and assert them.
So, where does that leave you if and when you find a government agent at your door? First, unless they have a warrant, you are not required to grant them entry. If they threaten to have you arrested for refusing them, remind them of the Fourth Amendment and the fact that the Supreme Court has confirmed that you cannot be prosecuted for refusing to allow an inspection without a warrant...
