Russian scientist Valery Mitko has died aged 81 while under house arrest on charges of treason. Mitko, a widely-acclaimed researcher of the Arctic region and one of the country's leading hydroacoustics experts, died on Sunday. Mitko was accused of passing state secrets to China during a visit in 2018. He'd remained under house arrest since being detained in February 2020.
