“It is reflective of my experiences both with trying to befriend people with selective mutism, how you interact in school, and also how her teachers treat her and her abilities commingle with the fact she cannot speak.”
⁃ Steffi Zachariadis, filmmaker.

In our newest video, Autism Theater Project founder, Gena Sims, speaks to writer and filmmaker, Steffi Zachariadis, who currently works as a Quest Designer. Steffi speaks on her journey with communication as well as the challenges she faced as a teenager. Steffi was given a fresh start when she changed schools, and credits this new beginning as to how she overcame her struggles (and began speaking again). Steffi also touches on her new film about a 14 year old girl with autism and mutism. Steffi's believes that her audience seeing her film can make them do a double take and realize that bullying a quiet kid, no matter the reason, is not excusable. Gena and Steffi both want to show people a more realistic and varied side of what teenagers go through and how they navigate the world.
