Western Cape Provincial Minister of Health, Dr. Nomafrench Mbombo visited the Western Cape Rehabilitation Centre (WCRC), Mitchells’ Plain. The visit was aimed at showcasing the services rendered at the facility. This will be a very interesting session as there will also be a discussion on interpersonal violence and the impact it has on both patients as well as the facility. The WCRC provides specialized, high-intensity rehabilitation and community-reintegration programmes for persons with physical disabilities. The focus is outcome-based and the promotion of functional independence. The facility has a maximum capacity of 156 beds and a daily OPD clinic. The rehabilitation programmes focus on reducing activity limitations and participation restrictions for persons among others stroke and head injuries, spinal cord afflictions, amputations and post amputations. These services are rendered to both state and private clients.
