First Garden, Final Potato Harvest of 2022. (see description for why we failed)

Much less than we hoped for when we planted our first garden this spring, but I think we know what the failures were.
1. Preparation was lacking.
We went from 'we should plant a garden' to making our first garden in a very short time. The clay soil was not tilled deep enough and mixed with enough compost, fertilizer or legitimate soil. As a result only the top foot or so was usable and then it was hard clay beneath.
2. Neglect.
During this summer, we simply didn't do enough to keep the soil moist and fertile. No excuses here. We need to schedule at least an hour a day for garden maintenance in the future.
3. Lack of experience.
I'm in my mid 50s, everything I know about gardening I pretty much learned from YouTube videos. This is not enough. Like most men, I learn by failing, so I'll consider this summer a Lesson and hopefully learn from my mistakes and have a more successful harvest next year.

I hope you can learn from my mistakes and avoid them.
