The possibility of launching "Poseidon" scared NATO countries

NATO intelligence sent a report on the movements of the Russian submarine "Belgorod" to the main member countries of the bloc. The alliance's intelligence officers in this document emphasize their concern about the risk of launching the Russian nuclear super torpedo Poseidon.

A torpedo armed with a nuclear warhead could trigger a "radioactive tsunami," writes La Repubblica. The launch of one "Poseidon" in its consequences will be comparable to the strike of an intercontinental ballistic missile.

Of particular concern to NATO is the fact that the alliance simply will not be able to track the launch of the torpedo. Basically, NATO satellites use infrared sensors that reliably detect thermal radiation from intercontinental ballistic missiles.

But in the case of Poseidon, this method does not work. The super torpedo is designed in such a way that it emits practically no heat, moving towards the target at a speed of about one hundred kilometers per hour.

Thus, "Poseidon" is a "perfect killer", which is capable of inflicting a completely sudden blow to NATO.
