When we tested our Mills Ammunition 124gr and 90gr hollow points we used 10% FBI ballistic gel. Specifically, we shot our Ruger SR9C at 10ft with the gel covered by the specific cotton, denim and fleece the FBI uses for their testing protocols. What we found out is that with the 90gr JHP, you get 10 +/- inches of penetration. https://youtu.be/McXv4ERqptg With the 124gr JHP’s, you get FULL penetration through 16 inches of gel. We all know the importance of follow-up shots. My theory was that the 90gr would shoot flatter, resulting in quicker more accurate follow up shots. Through the Ruger SR9C 3 ½ inch barrel, the 90gr JHP runs at 1178fps and the 124gr JHP runs at 993fps. Using the Free Reoil Energy calculation the 90gr makes 2.66ft-lbs of recoil energy and the 124gr makes 3.39ft-lbs. Using the MantisX recoilmeter we found out that the 90gr JHP’s definitely shoot flatter with lower muzzle rise. That being said, because we load our 124gr JHP’s at a manageable power factor, they are pretty damm easy to shoot as well!! Get yours at www.millsammunition.com. Try them all and carry the ones that shoot best for you!!
