French Fries are one of the best side dishes that you can have and are best enjoyed with chicken and fish dishes. Many people confuse this dish’s origin to that of French cuisine; however, that’s not true at all. French Fries are known to be originated in Belgium and as per local lore, the villagers of Meuse Valley used to go for fishing and eat the fried fish. However, climatic conditions made it impossible for them to find fishes and eat them. Villagers then thought of finding other sources of food, and thus came potato. They started cooking potatoes in the same manner as that of fish. This dish was discovered by British soldiers in World War I and because French is the dominant language of southern Belgium, they named the dish as ‘French Fries’.
