Live from London on Saturday, October 1, as protesters gather for a national day of action on sky-high energy bills and the wider cost of living crisis.

Prime Minister Liz Truss defended her government’s 'mini-budget' which cut taxes and froze the price of energy, after the pound collapsed, costs of borrowing surged and the Bank of England took emergency action to stabilise the market.

"People were facing fuel bills of up to £6,000," Truss said. "What we have done is taken decisive action. First of all to make sure that nobody is paying more than a typical fuel bill of £2,500."
The opposition, some economists and the International Monetary Fund have all condemned the mini-budget for pushing the cost of living even higher.
