“I grew up here so I know what they're going through...It makes what I'm saying more loaded. I'm the perfect guy to cut them down cause I've been there you know?” I'm talking to 4TGE about his new E.P. 'Spitting At Children', a collection of tunes written whilst doing Youth Work. “I was helping them make beats and record their tunes and whatever so when I started writing it just became the way I vented the stresses of the job. I wanted to cut them down in their own medium...I was never a rapper before that.”

I’ve just listened to it and it dropped my jaw with its audacity more than a few times. The wonky deranged beats and subversive lyrics are as scary as they are funny and the disses are brilliant; ‘why don’t you fuck off and ride your scooter’ being one of the many greats. Can I ask about the mask? And is there any reason you chose a witch? “Hiding my face just made it easier to say what I wanted to say...I still do a lot of work with young people so it's important to me to keep some distance between the two worlds. Some of these kids have had it pretty hard and arguably don't deserve to be shit on any more...it's not like I'm going after the top dog, I'm kicking them off the bottom rung.” So it's to protect them as much as anything? “I wouldn't say that..I'm not sure I'd get hired as a youth worker if this stuff went out under my name...and I just had the witch mask laying around the house, there's no other reason. My house is full of weird shit.”

Any plans to play it out live? “Yeah. I've been working with Brain Rays and Parish News recently and we've been talking about doing some shows..."
