Why getting a pro camera for filming may be cheaper than an iPhone

Just a few thoughts from me.

A lot of people get an iPhone for filming, but it may be cheaper and better to get a pro camera.

If you buy an iPhone for filming, you are best to buy one with a LOT of memory. These tend to cost for more than the base iPhone. But if you shoot 4k vid, the files are HUGE and you will run out of storage quickly.

So as an example looking on the Apple site it looks like a iPhone 13 is £749 with 128gb. But the 512gb version is £1079.

Other factors are battery. You can plus an external one into your iPhone, but not swap batteries as you can with most pro cameras.

Transferring files is a bit of a pain as you cannot simply remove a card and lug it into your pc to edit.

So if you look at a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K £1,199.00 not including a lenses. While this is more expensive, it is not a lot more, and I suspect will last you years. Not to mention probably give you better quality image and a LOT more functions.

The lenses you buy may last you a lifetime.

And I suspect the camera body may last you years too.

So once you take into account the ease and extras you get and one suspects quality of a pro/dedicated camera, it may be a false economy to spend a fortune on an iPhone.
