Mesa police officers shoot suspect during overnight barricade situation
Police in Mesa shot a burglary suspect during an overnight barricade situation, authorities said Monday morning.
The Mesa Police Department said officers responded to a call about a burglary near Rio Salado Parkway and Country Club Drive around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
Officers arrived and the suspect, 21-year-old Abdul Basit Ishan, eventually barricaded himself in a building. Police shot Ishan around 3:25 a.m. Monday.
Ishan was taken to a hospital in critical condition but was later booked into jail.
Ishan was booked on the following charges:
10 Counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
2 Counts of Burglary 1st Degree
1 Count of Possession of Narcotic Drugs
1 Count of Possession of a Firearm in a Drug Offense
1 Count/ Prohibited Possessor of Firearms
5 Counts of Endangerment Substantial Risk of Death
1 Count of Criminal Damage Over $5,000
1 Count of Criminal Damage over $1,000
6 Counts of Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm in City Limits
