Perth is in Eastern Ontario, Canada, 83 kilometres (52 miles) southwest of Ottawa, in Lanark County. Stewart Park features gardens, bridges, walking paths and tree-lined picnic areas as well as the beautiful bronze statue of Big Ben, Canada's most famous horse.
The Stewart Park Music Festival takes place in Stewart Park every July.
Ian Millar is a Canadian Equestrian Team athlete for show jumping. He is a two-time winner of the Show Jumping World Cup, and an Olympic silver medalist and is from Perth. Ian's horse Big Ben (1976–1999) was a champion. Together they won more than 40 Grand Prix titles worldwide and the Show Jumping World Cup two years in a row (1988 & 1989) among many other awards. Won the Spruce Meadows Derby 6 times in eight years (the Chrysler Classic in '86,'87 and '89 and the Shell Cup in '91,'92 and '93) and 1.5 million dollars in prize money.
Stewart Park was donated by the Stewarts. This five-acre green space in the heart of town, was donated by the late Jessie Mabel Stewart in 1947 in memory of her husband, the Honourable John Alexander Stewart, notable person in the town’s history.
