Iran Launches 73 Ballistic Missiles and Dozens of Drones – Bombing Targets Across Iraqi Kurdistan
Strike deep in Kurdistan - Show of strength and smiles in Ankara
In a terrifying show of force, Iran launched 73 ballistic missiles and dozens of Shahed-131/136 kamikaze drones against targets in Iraqi Kurdistan.
Sardar Pakpour, commander of Iran's ground forces, revealed that 73 ballistic missiles were fired at Kurdish opposition forces in northern Iraq.
The missiles hit targets in 42 locations, some of which are 400 kilometers away.
Three waves of attacks were conducted, the first wave was 25 ballistic missiles, the second 25 ballistic missiles and the third 23 ballistic missiles. Between each wave of attack there was a gap of several minutes.
Iran, hit the entire length and breadth of Iraqi Kurdistan: Kurdish headquarters, training centers, camps, weapons depots, etc.
This unprecedented attack by Iran shows, on the one hand, that Tehran is rehearsing the use of long-range ballistic missiles against US and allied bases in Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Qatar in the event of a conflict.
On the other hand, it shows that there is a serious problem called "Kurds". Turkey and Iran today joined forces and tightened their cooperation against the Kurds.
Iran on Wednesday used drones and suicide missiles to strike several Iranian-Kurdish opposition parties stationed deep in the Kurdistan region, killing at least nine and wounding more than a dozen others, regional officials said.
In the fifth consecutive day of bombing, Iran targeted the opposition Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK), the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI), the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PJAK) and Komala in both Suleimani and Erbil provinces.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said " Fateh-360 missiles and suicide drones" were used in the attacks, Iranian state media reported.
PAK had "several" casualties as a result of the shelling of its Sherawa base near Kirkuk's Pirde (Altun Kupri), party chief Hussein Yazdanpanah said, without specifying the number.
The attack also targeted the camp of the leftist opposition group Komala in Zargwez in Sulaimani province where it is based, and the KDPI headquarters in Koya.
"Iran attacked our party headquarters in Koya," KDPI tweeted.
The KDPI is a Kurdish opposition party that has waged an armed war against the Iranian government since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Iran continued to shell KDPI and PAK bases in Koya and Sherawa until the afternoon.
The Regional Health Ministry also put all hospitals in Erbil on alert after the attacks, Erbil Governor Omed Kosnau said.
Mohammed Salih Qaderi, KDPI's head of public affairs, said the attack took place "in the camp where women and children are, there are civilians."
Bases of Iranian-Kurdish opposition groups are "close" to the KDPI camp, he added.
