Solitary Confinement

In my art i like to push peoples buttons and explore unique topics others might find disturbing. Horror and film allow me to explain my ideas better to entertain the audience and tell a story. I chose the topic of solitary confinement to show an example of what the mind could do to a person if isolated for too long. Although i didn’t use much words, i was able to tell a story using horror sounds and small repetitive editing cuts to make it more suspenseful. My idea originated from a YouTube video I watched a couple of years ago, about what is solitary confinement and what can it do to the mind.

To approach my projects goal and connect more to it. I decided to stay in one room all night from 10pm to 5am. Making it 7 hours in one single room alone in the darkness.. The reason I did this was to connect better to the piece and in some way relate to the message I am trying to explain. The message I am trying to get across to my audience is to perhaps question why solitary confinement is even allowed. Its inhumane and causes people to lose their minds. What if ur neighbor just moved in and he happened to come out straight from solitary confinement? Would you feel safe?

As an artist I enjoy leaving the audience something to wonder about, if my work isn’t questioned than there is no art.
