A man in Chile has legged it after he was accidentally paid 286 times his normal salary.

The banking bungle occurred in May, with the man promising his boss that he would return what was overpaid to him.

But instead, he quit his job and vanished.

Let's be real here, most people would probably do the same thing.

The company accidentally paid around 165,398,851 Chilean pesos instead of his usually salary of 500,000 pesos.

For those playing at home, that's about AUD$260,000 (£148,000).

He normally gets paid about AUD$790 (£450) for a month's worth of work, so we can only assume he is now doing a Scrooge McDuck and is swimming in a pool filled with money and gold.

According to Chilean financial news website Diario Financiero, the man worked at Consorcio Industrial de Alimentos (Cial), a company that is one of the largest producers of cold cut meats in Chile.

When human resources noticed the major banking error, Cial reached out to their employee to discuss the mistaken payment.
