Battlefield 1 (Battlefield 2) is the third installment in the Battlefield series and was released for the PC in 2005.
The setting of Battlefield 1 shifts to a fictional modern military warfare while the weapons vehicles and other equipment that players use in the game are derived from the real thing. The game uses the vastly improved Refractor 2 engine with significant improvements in graphics and sound effects. The game even adds a commander system and squad system making teamwork even closer and more competitive. The game supports up to 64 players online at the same time while for the first time a scaled-down version of the map has been designed for 16-player skirmishes. Battlefield 1 sold over one million copies in its first week of release. Battlefield 1 was also a hit for several years and as of September 2009 the update service for Battlefield 1 itself and the production of third-party modules had not completely stopped.
