Thank you Poh Cheng Che, Laura Guerra and Dale Jones for their inspiration(s) behind this song.

I was sitting down musing just why YOU took me best part of a month to create. I realized there was a huge amount of instrumentation on the track. That led me to think could the same song be split into two and still work as a song. This is the second part of that experiment where I mute all the guitars for a synth version.

Frankly I prefer the other two versions guitar only or the original mix of both. However there are some synth tracks that stand out more in this version that I like. Please find the original credits and description for YOU below.

The overall aim for the original version of this song was to try to create a synth pop band song that could have been made in the 80s. There were innovative and skillful bands out there that used synths as part of their sound from Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Depeche Mode. In order to achieve this aim it needed both heavy synth melody lines and a guitar rhythm and possible guitar lead lines.

This song started about two months ago shortly after the release of Goth Girl https://youtu.be/j7zyhOOkVWk with my friend Poh. He revealed that he was a fan of 80s synth pop and that the song reminded him of Depeche Mode. After that discussion I was inspired to create a four bar synth track that formed the chorus of YOU.

The second part of the song was created after Laura Guerra suggested we do 90s covers in the Facebook group Original Music Makers and Listeners corner of which she is an admin. I looked up influential songs from the 90s and Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana jumped out at me. I thought what if I could do a song using four chord structure (but different chord progression) to make an 80s song using those chords all the way through.

This didn't quite work out but I did end up creating the verse and first bridge / Outro from this idea. I then combined the first sequence I created to make the chorus / bridge / intro.

Finally I had a discussion with my brother to bounce ideas back and forth for using guitar in the mix as well as the synths.

Its taken some time to put it all together but I am excited with the result.

I used the AKAI MPC Live 2 for synths / drums / bass / mixing and mastering
Guitar used was a LTD Viper 300M direct in using MPC Live 2 FX..

FInd me on twitter, gettr and rumble.
