Berne e miíase são coisas distintas, apesar de similares sob alguns aspectos. Ambas são larvas que parasitam os animais. No caso do berne, os ovos, ao entrarem em contato com a pele íntegra, ali se aderem, até que as pequenas larvas eclodem, penetrando na pele.

Deste modo, as larvas começam a se alimentar de tecido vivo, mas sem penetrar na musculatura, ficando apenas sob a pele, sendo que cada larva de berne fica em seu próprio espaço.

Ou seja, em cada orifício existe apenas uma larva. No caso da miíase, popularmente conhecida como bicheira, a mosca deposita seus ovos diretamente na pele com algum tipo de ferimento e só ali deposita seus ovos.

As larvas eclodem e rapidamente se instalam na ferida, começando a se alimentar do tecido vivo, se alimentando de pele, músculo, tendões, o que houver pela frente.

Não há limite para a penetração das larvas da miíase. Em cada orifício de penetração da miíase (que muitas vezes não são simples orifícios, mas galerias) pode haver várias larvas. O tratamento para as duas é similar e consiste na retirada das larvas e tratamento subseqüente das feridas que ficam no animal e medicamentos que auxiliam no tratamento.

There is no limit to the penetration of myiasis larvae. In each myiasis penetration hole (which are often not simple holes, but galleries) there can be several larvae. The treatment for both is similar and consists of removing the larvae and subsequent treatment of the wounds that remain on the animal and medications that help in the treatment.
