"Lawrence of Arabia" originally named Thomas Lawrence was born in England graduated from Oxford University and served as a member of the British Museum's Euphrates Kahmersh archaeological team as a general member. From 1916 Lawrence of Arabia formerly a British intelligence officer in North Africa led the Arab resistance against the Turkish army with a passion and confidence in the legacy of the old empire. As an Englishman he was able to blend in completely with the Arabs in terms of language clothing and habits and his image was thus shrouded in mystery. By October this strange and well-traveled man had taken Damascus and was present at the Paris Peace Conference. He then incredibly gave up his public office and legendary status in 1922 to join the Royal Air Force (RAF) as a regular airman under the pseudonym Ross retiring in 1935.
