DIY Faux Book Stack

Hey Everyone!

In celebration of my "almost" finished shop, I decided to take my tools for a spin and make this SUPER easy DIY.

I am the worst at decorating my home. I know what I want, I have some of the stuff to make it look good, but making it look good on the mantel, is not working. I've looked at Pinterest for ideas and I saw that people were using faux wooden books to lift smaller objects when decorating a shelf or mantel. So I went into my garage and grabbed my scrap birch butcher block cut off from one of my first builds that I have been saving for a "rainy day".

I've seen faux books all the same size and stacked, wrapped with twine and had live, laugh, love written on the spines. I liked the look, but wanted something different. So I decided to stager my cuts. Since this will be hold a piece of coral my husband gave me, I wanted to distress the books, so the coral will stand out a bit. I think the butcher block was a bit too thick, but ended up looking good.

You can use 2x4s or 1x3s for this DIY and you don't need power tools either. Cut them all the same length or stager the cuts. Cut the wood any size you want. I made two sets of books. One big, one small. The smaller books look way better, so I'm going back to cut down the other blocks. Paint them any color you want. You don't have to use chalk paint. If you want to distress them and don't have dark wax, you can always get a distressing or crackle paint to go over your paint. Many ways to make this your own. If you need more ideas, head over to Pinterest to see what's out there.

I hope you give this a try if you are looking to add something extra to your home décor!

book measurements: 8in, 6.75in, 5.5 in. ( I randomly cut these blocks)
